Day 5 we saw that the Bible offers three metaphors that teach us God’s view of life:We have reviewed life is test, and a trust. The third metaphor that we will look at is that life is a temporary assignment. These ideas are the foundation of a purpose-driven living
To make the best use of life, we must never forget two truths:Compared with eternity life is extremely brief. Second, earth is only a temporary residence. We won’t be long here so don’t need to get too attached here.
The Bible uses the terms aliens, pilgrim, foreigner, stranger, visitor and traveler to describe our brief stay on earth.
“If you call God your Father, Live your time as a temporary residence on earth”– 1 pet.1:17
It is easy to forget that the pursuit of happiness is not what life is about. Only as we remember life as a test, a trust and a temporary assignment will the appeal of these things lose their grip on our lives.
In other to keep us from becoming too attached to earth. God allows us to feel a significant amount of discontent and dissatisfaction in life.-longings that will never be fulfilled on this side of eternity.
You will never feel completely satisfied on earth because you were made for more. Realizing that life is a temporary assignment should automatically change our values. Eternal values and not Temporal ones should become the critical factor for our choices and decisions.
It takes faith to live on earth as a foreigner.
